You're hard-wired to only be able to sympathize with a small group of humans. Everyone else is just a mob, a Government, a Corporation, a person identified by his job code, his political affiliation, his wealth, some single dimension.

Perhaps we should consider going further than Mr. Wong suggests: not just accepting that this is true, but finding ways of making our society work with that knowledge. Not "going back to the basics", precisely -- but maybe something related to smaller communities, federated infrastructures, ... there's got to be something we can do about it. Let's all think on it.
