The writing's not great, but the idea is interesting: if the republicans (or any party, really) gives up (slowly) on an idea, how should we react to the ebb and flow of parties as they reinvent themselves over time? Should I start to vote republican, just because they no longer care as much about certain things, and more about others that I find interesting?
Regardless, a party is just a platform, a group of people who think, for a moment, they share more than what separates them. We should watch this, because worse than voting republican is voting republican just because it's republican, not because it's what you believe. (The same could be said of any party, but I'd that'd be less fun.)
