You're hard-wired to only be able to sympathize with a small group of humans. Everyone else is just a mob, a Government, a Corporation, a person identified by his job code, his political affiliation, his wealth, some single dimension.

Note: some people have far smaller MonkeySpheres than others.

Perhaps we should consider going further than Mr. Wong suggests: not just accepting that this is true, but finding ways of making our society work with that knowledge. Not "going back to the basics", precisely -- but maybe something related to smaller communities, federated infrastructures, ... there's got to be something we can do about it. Let's all think on it. Think on it real hard. Everybody now ...
